Homemade Snickers

There’s no day like a lazy day. And there’s a right way to spend a lazy day. It involves test cricket and a kitchen. Preferably within close proximity to each other. If the actual grounds are overseas, a TV will do.

It’s worth noting that cricket is a good occasion to make something annoyingly time consuming because wait time is filled and tedious work is coupled with entertainment.

So, snickers (as discovered on popsugar):

Time taken: 80 overs

Yield: 17 wickets and a historic test win by Bangladesh. Also some snickers.

Part 1 – Nougat:

  • Turn 1 cup of almonds into almond butter
  • Mix in 4 tbs honey, 1 tbs flour and a pinch of salt
  • Make a rectangle, about half an inch thick
  • Let set in the freezer for 30 minutes
  • Wait and watch cricket

Part 2 – Caramel:

  • Pit 10 dates (I actually thought they were too sweet so quantity depends on the type of date)
  • Blend with ½ tsp vanilla, pinch of salt, 1 tbs coconut oil and 1/6 cup water
  • Layer it on the almond butter
  • You can add chopped nuts here if you’re that kind of nut person. I’m not that kind of nut person.
  • Let set in the freezer for 45 mins
  • Wait and watch cricket

Part 3 – Chocolate:

  • Melt some baking chocolate. (For dark chocolate add 1 tbs of coconut oil)
  • Slice the bars and coat the top with chocolate
  • Let set in the freezer – could take from 5 to 20 minutes depending on the chocolate.
  • Wait and watch cricket
  • Then coat the other side and let set again
  • Wait and watch cricket

By the time you’re done someone will be close to winning. During lunch and tea breaks simply swap channels to watch more live test cricket.

And this my friends and co-Fizzles, is how to spend a lazy day.
